5 Streetwear Trends to Expect for Autumn/Winter 2018
Transparent Products / Design
Throughout 2018 there has been occasional product drops from such brands like Helmut Lang and Nike X Virgil Abloh that show certain elements of translucent features (if not full translucent products). Coats, Bags, Shoes and many more products are being created like this, which makes people contemplate 'what am I going to put in my translucent bag?' or 'what socks should I wear with these slightly translucent shoes?' This brings your outfit planning game to a whole other level, with brand conscious ‘hype beasts’ now going that extra step to cop streetwear accessories that can be seen in/through these translucent products.
Crazy highlighter coloured products seem to be blowing up big time right now!! From t-shirts to trousers, wild high visibility colours like orange, yellow and lime green are pushing through in new collections, potentially hinting their presence in new AW18 collections. Your friends certainly won’t miss you in crowds if you end up copping any of these brightly coloured products.
Clothing Collection Raffle Drops
Due to the ever rising demand and increasing hype around streetwear products and brands, customers are wanting rarer items/products that they don't want other people to be seen in (everyone has experienced that awkward moment when your on a night out and bump into someone wearing the same shirt). In the trainer market online raffles are becoming increasingly common, with brands offering a new limited edition trainer to selected distributors to raffle off. You as a customer enter the raffle and will then be notified on whether or not your name has been drawn, if you are successful you will then have the opportunity to buy the trainers. This method works extremely well for streetwear brands as they can predict how much interest they will receive, measuring the demand for products before they are even released. These methods also contribute to increasing interest for the reseller market.
I don’t know if brands will begin to adopt this method for certain clothing collections, but with the increase in demand for more unique, one off clothing pieces, offering raffles for items of clothing could one day become a regular thing. This could definitely be a trend that we could begin to see more of this A/W, so keep your eyes peeled and get ready to start entering many raffles hype beasts!
Relaxed Street wear Style
Throughout many AW18 runway shows and look books from various streetwear brands, the relaxed style of clothing remains a trend within the industry. Brands such as Supreme, Palace, Carhartt, Represent and many others have showcased this style. This is due to many streetwear brands having roots or relations with the skate industry and a good deal of this laid-back, comfortable style is adopted from skateboarders - so don’t expect products such as ‘super skinny’ and ‘tight fit’ from any high end streetwear brands anytime soon! A slim/relaxed fit is the common style we will continue to see from many of these brands and is easily made to look effortlessly cool!
Plastic and Ceramic chains/accessories
After watching Virgil Abloh’s first show as the Men’s Wear Designer for Louis Vuitton, he showcased plastic and ceramic styled chains on bags, wallets and purses as an accessory. Other brands have slowly started to follow suit, by customising their products with the similar feature.
On the plus side with this plastic styled chain the availability in colours is endless and the weight is less than it would be if I was a metal or stainless steel, however people’s perception of plastic on a high end streetwear bag/accessory could be seen as not worth the money.
That's it for my top 5 predicted autumn/winter 2018 streetwear trends, I hope you enjoyed this post - can't wait to see you all in your neon t-shirts next month! Peace!
