dom catena - videography
When did you start photography/videography?
I started at a pretty young age. I think around the age of 12, it stemmed from filming my friends skating/ BMXing on my Dads digital camera in my early teens.
What were your main reasons behind your choice to become a film-maker/director?
I guess it’s just something I’ve done for practically my entire life so it felt natural to keep going with it and see how far I could progress. There are so many different avenues to explore and all the skills picked up along the way are transferable. I never have any two days the same
Who are your inspirations?
Roger Deakins is a huge inspiration for me. Although I’m rarely on a Hollywood film set, he really influences the way I shoot and create films for the likes of social media.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
That’s the great thing about my job. I don’t have to think that far ahead because there’s literally no way of knowing what could happen. So long as I’m happy then I don’t mind. Wouldn’t mind a house by then either.
What do you like to do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies or interests?
Funny one, all of my hobbies are actually now aspects of my job so I’ve kind of shot myself in the foot. Photography is still a big passion of mine professionally and as a hobby, so I guess getting myself to some nice places/landscapes where I can shoot is something I enjoy the most.
Best/Worst things about your job?
Having fun whilst making money/ being stressed whilst making no money. I think that goes for anyone self-employed no?
What is the most quirky project you’ve worked on?
I literally wouldn’t know where to begin with this one.
